ANNUAL REPORT
2024-25
The Seven Hills School is a learning community with a mission to develop the intellect, engage the spirit, and foster respect for, and responsibility to, our world.
From the Head of School
Dear Seven Hills Community -
The 2024–2025 school year was truly exceptional. Our students thrived, guided by dedicated educators and supported by a generous community. They grew in confidence, empathy, and resilience, and their daily experiences were made possible and strengthened by your support.
Together, we celebrated a year of remarkable philanthropic success. Our two main fundraisers—the Annual Fund and the auction—raised close to $1 million for the school's operating budget, filling the gap between what tuition covers and the cost of running our program. Led by our intrepid class captains, the Annual Fund saw outstanding participation, and the Ultimate Tailgate Auction was a fun, spirit-filled evening that raised essential funds. All of these efforts are a testament to our shared commitment to the students, teachers, and programs at Seven Hills.
In Lower School, we fostered a culture of innovation and collaboration through Curiosity Workshops, which included classes such as cooking, dance, graphic design, and pottery. Middle School students enjoyed expanded elective offerings, including stage makeup, Rubik's Cubing, engineering and robotics, and origami. Our parent-guardian advisory committee helped bring together our first-ever World Market event, featuring diverse foods, activities, and games, creating a vibrant celebration of the diversity in our community. Finally, we added Japanese to our Middle School world languages curriculum, further enriching our students’ connection to Japan, as we marked the 25th anniversary of our cultural exchange program with Kita City.
The 24-25 school year also saw new levels of success in fundraising for The Campaign for Seven Hills, helping us reach our ambitious goals and bring our future plans to fruition. Guided by our strategic and campus plans, we are focused on modernizing our facilities, expanding access and affordability through our Modified Tuition program, further advancing our student program offerings, and building our endowment for long-term fiscal sustainability. This work will ensure that Seven Hills is able to serve all the students of today and continues to thrive for generations to come.
Generosity has always been a hallmark of The Seven Hills School. The success of this past year affirms the strength of our shared vision and provides momentum for the future. Thank you for your steadfast partnership, your investment in our students, and your belief in the transformative power of a Seven Hills education.
With gratitude,
Kathleen McNamara
Head of School

Class of 2025 Steps Forward as Graduates
On a joyful June morning, parents, faculty, staff, and guests gathered to celebrate the Class of 2025. The ceremony gave graduates a moment to reflect on the friendships and mentors who shaped their years at Seven Hills—and to look ahead with excitement to the adventures awaiting them in high school.
"As we prepare to leave, the 'Homeward Bound' lyrics take on another meaning. We are headed to high school, to a new chapter of our lives, yet I know we are prepared because we have learned to create 'home' wherever we are. We know how to build a community, how to find our place, and how to make others feel welcome.”

In Memoriam
We remember and celebrate two beloved members of the Seven Hills community whose warmth, wisdom, and dedication continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing them.

From the Board Chair
I find it remarkable that after so many years as a Seven Hills parent, each school year brings new experiences, discoveries, and learnings. This past year, as I watched my daughter explore more of the Bay Area through field trips to the San Jose Tech Museum and the Oakland Zoo, I saw her learning expand beyond classroom walls in new and joyful ways. In social studies in the spring, she dove into learning about change makers in her own community and around the world, and then delighted in helping to build our very own Canopy Classroom under a majestic valley oak tree, leaving her own mark, along with her classmates, on the school campus we all love and know so well.
The past school year, which marked my second year as board chair and my 11th year at Seven Hills, also brought new milestones. As a school, we successfully raised more funds for the capital campaign than in any year in the school’s history, while still funding the essential Annual Fund and hosting a memorable, successful, and exceptionally fun auction. The success of these initiatives is only made possible through the enthusiastic and meaningful investments of members of our community—trustees, parents, grandparents, alumni, former parents, and employees. I am grateful for your steadfast support.
Our work as a Board this past year was both inspired and inspiring. We continue to look to the school’s mission as our north star, guiding our decisions and ensuring we are serving our students and program now and into the future. Holding fiscal stability and strength as top priorities, we are confident that the school will continue to thrive through thoughtful stewardship of our resources, bolstered reserves, and a growing endowment. Our partnership with Kathleen, Head of School, continues to deepen as we work together to develop strategic goals and identify the next transformational priorities for our school.
It is a privilege and a joy to work with the Board and administration, and to be in community with all the supporters of Seven Hills. The report that follows is a testament to the strength of our community and its impact on young learners during their most formative years. Seven Hills is a place where students can succeed and make mistakes, where they are celebrated when they reach a goal, and they are coached and encouraged when they go astray. I’ve watched my own daughters benefit from the whole-child education, seeing how their social-emotional skills lay the foundation for their academic achievement. As you read the details below, I encourage you to reflect on all the ways your own children, grandchildren, or students have grown during their time at Seven Hills. The journey is as important as the destination.
Thank you for all the ways you support Seven Hills.
Gratefully,
Julie Meissner

2024-25 Financials
Seven Hills is committed to investing in and enhancing the student experience while keeping tuition as low as possible. The Board of Trustees sets tuition annually and oversees the school’s finances with the dual goals of supporting mission-driven growth and promoting fiscal strength.
The overall operating budget in 2024-25 was $16 million. Faculty and staff salaries and benefits continued to account for 65 percent of the overall operating expenses, while tuition provided more than 80 percent of the overall operating revenue. Philanthropic support of the Annual Fund and auction combined was the third largest source of operating revenue.
These numbers reflect pre-audited financials. Audit will be available upon request as of January 2026.

"Even as our youngest child approaches the end of his Seven Hills journey, we continue to give to Seven Hills each year both in recognition of all that the school has done—and continues to do—for our family, but also as part of our commitment to ensure that what we’ve experienced continues for future Seven Hills families and community members."

ENDOWMENT AND MAJOR GIFTS
Building a Strong Foundation for the Future
Growing the Seven Hills endowment is one of the most meaningful ways we can secure the school’s long-term financial health. Now exceeding $7 million, the endowment contributed more than $300,000 to last year’s operating budget—helping reduce our reliance on tuition and other revenue sources.
Thanks to the continued generosity of our community, the endowment has grown steadily over the past year. We are deeply grateful to the many families whose gifts are helping to build an enduring legacy for generations of Seven Hills students to come.

Touchdown at the Seven Hills Auction!
Ultimate Tailgate: Score Big for Seven Hills was a championship-level win, thanks to our all-star roster of families, friends, faculty, and staff who brought unbeatable spirit and fierce bidding to the game on Saturday, April 5. From the pre-game tailgate to the final buzzer, the game-day energy was high, and the crowds brought all-star spirit all the way through!
The weekend kicked off with an online silent auction that kept everyone in the game. On Saturday evening, guests arrived in their best fan gear and festive tailgate looks, ready to celebrate and enjoy some tailgate-style fun. The Lower School blacktop transformed into the ultimate pre-game party, buzzing with music, cocktails, and camaraderie. From there, fans made their way into Hunt Hall Stadium—entering through the tunnel and onto the turf field inside the gym, which had been transformed into a football stadium for the big game.
After a “kickoff” video performance by faculty and staff, the evening continued with delicious food, drinks, photo ops, and team-spirited mingling. Jase Turner, Assistant Head of School for Strategic Priorities, kicked off the night in style, taking the stage to his walk-up song and setting the tone for a high-energy evening.
Meanwhile, the auctioneer expertly called the live auction and Raise the Paddle, igniting a wave of competitive bidding to fuel the future of Seven Hills. The celebration didn’t stop there—the LED dance floor and DJ turned the afterparty into a true victory dance.
The biggest win of the night? A scoreboard of $288,000 net raised for our students, faculty, and programs—including an incredible $114,750 during Raise the Paddle!
A heartfelt thank you goes out to our tailgate champions—parents, guardians, friends, and employees—who made this event possible. From procuring items, decorating, and promoting, to donating, bidding, sponsoring, and volunteering countless hours, you all helped us score big for Seven Hills. #UltimateWin

THE CAMPAIGN FOR SEVEN HILLS
Reimagine | Elevate | Discover
This year, our community came together in inspiring ways to make extraordinary progress on our capital campaign, The Campaign for Seven Hills. We are energized by what this campaign will bring to the future of Seven Hills: a new Big Red featuring a K–5 Imagination Lab and four bright, modern classrooms; enhanced programs that allow Seven Hills to continually innovate and enrich the educational experience; expanded access and affordability through Modified Tuition grants; and lasting financial stability supported by a growing endowment.
Through the generosity and commitment of our donors, we received $2.4M in new gifts and pledges—bringing our total raised to nearly $7 million. Gifts from parents, alumni, grandparents, trustees, faculty, staff, and friends have fueled this momentum, demonstrating the power of collective investment in our mission and vision for the school’s future.
As our capital campaign enters the final stretch, we celebrate this remarkable progress and look ahead to the next transformational moment on the horizon. We are excited to turn our dreams into reality—creating spaces, programs, and opportunities that will shape Seven Hills for decades to come.
