As we reflect on the 2025–2026 school year, we have so much to celebrate! This year, our entire community—families, grandparents, alumni, past parents, faculty, staff, and friends—came together with extraordinary purpose. Thanks to your shared belief in our mission, Seven Hills had our most successful fundraising year in our history.
From enthusiastic participation in the Annual Fund and a memorable night at the Superhero Soirée Auction, to the heartfelt 8th Grade Class Gift and major milestones in The Campaign for Seven Hills, your generosity reaches every corner of our school. We are modernizing our campus, expanding access, securing our long-term endowment, and continually enriching the daily student experience. It is an exciting moment in the life of Seven Hills.
Philanthropy lies at the heart of an independent school, but at Seven Hills, it is also a true partnership. New at Seven Hills
in 2025–2026
Nurturing Our Youngest Learners:
The Double Rainbow Cohort
When an unusually high number of students under age three joined Seven Hills last year, our ECE teams responded with agility and thoughtful adjustment. To give these youngest learners—who spend two years in the Rainbow classroom due to their birthday month—a deeply supportive entry into the Seven Hills journey, Seven Hills established a dedicated "Double Rainbow" cohort in a thoughtfully remodeled classroom space, supported by their own teaching team.
The Double Rainbow program offered a daily schedule and pace designed specifically for younger capacities while remaining connected to the broader Early Childhood community. Children moved fluidly between focused small-group learning and mixed-age outdoor exploration, as well as Studio, Eco-Literacy, Library, Buddies, and school-wide assemblies alongside older Rainbow and Red Barn peers.
This approach allowed educators to meet critical developmental needs without compromise, fostering early confidence, curiosity, and independence on the ECE yard.
While created as a responsive, one-time initiative, this inaugural model proved to be a resounding success and now serves as a tested blueprint Seven Hills can reactivate whenever future enrollment calls for it.
Philanthropy provides Seven Hills with the agility to adapt our programs in real time, ensuring that every year, our campus and curriculum evolve to serve the exact children sitting in front of us.
Bridging the Gap:
The 5th Grade Transition
Fifth grade at Seven Hills marks a pivotal bridge between lower and middle school—a year defined by incredible social and academic growth. To make this transition less mysterious and more joyful, Seven Hills introduced a series of intentional programmatic shifts designed to foster independence while maintaining a deeply supportive environment.
Throughout the year, fifth graders gradually stepped into the rhythm of middle school life. They joined sixth graders for daily lunches and recess, broadening their social circles, and stepped into select middle school electives after Fall Break. Academically, students experienced enhanced, targeted math instruction co-taught by lower and middle school faculty, alongside subject-specialized instruction that introduced them to moving between classrooms. Students also stepped into new campus leadership roles and participated in middle school Town Halls, Spirit Weeks, and Service Days. These new opportunities were balanced with beloved lower school traditions, including first-grade buddies and the iconic trip to Yosemite.
Your support makes this level of intentionality possible—providing the staffing, resources, and flexibility to meet students at every developmental stage and prepare them to enter middle school with confidence.
Expanding Horizons:
6th Grade Takes Tahoe
To kick off their middle school experience, our sixth graders embarked on a reimagined fall outdoor education adventure in the Lake Tahoe region. Intentionally selected by science teacher Dr. Blake Suttle to elevate the sixth-grade science curriculum, this dynamic new location transformed the traditional team-building trip into a deeply integrated field study.
Partnering with the Tahoe Adventure Company, Seven Hills designed a customized itinerary that connected classroom lessons directly to the wilderness. Students explored Tahoe’s vibrant forests and microclimates, establishing a compelling "tale of two sites" by contrasting Walnut Creek’s dry landscape with Lake Tahoe’s lush ecosystem. Beyond conducting hands-on environmental research, students navigated team-building challenges, embraced healthy risk-taking, and forged lasting friendships.
Your support directly funds innovative curriculum design, specialized outdoor partnerships, and transformative experiential learning opportunities like these, empowering our students to explore, discover, and lead both inside and outside the classroom.

Class of 2026 Graduates Carry Seven Hills Forward
On a joyful May morning, parents, faculty, staff, and guests gathered to celebrate the Class of 2026. The ceremony gave graduates a moment to reflect on the friendships and mentors who shaped their years at Seven Hills—and to look ahead with excitement to the adventures awaiting them in high school.

A Seven Hills education is measured not only by where our graduates go next, but by the character, confidence, and curiosity they carry with them. As members of the Class of 2026 reflected on their journey, their words reminded us what makes this community so special.
Throughout my time here at Seven Hills, almost everything I did taught me a pillar of the community, whether I was chasing down the gingerbread man in kindergarten to engage the spirit, learning long division in fourth grade to develop the intellect, or attending tea ceremonies in Japan to foster respect for and responsibility to our world. At the end of our time here at Seven Hills, what we take with us won’t just be what we’ve been taught, but how we’ve learned to approach things, stay curious, and recognize the value in the experiences we had.

Volunteer Spotlight:
The Shmerling-Dallal Family
“Our kids spend so much of their lives at school, and volunteering gives us a chance to be part of that experience. We get to see them learn, grow, build friendships, and gain confidence. Some of our favorite moments have been the simple ones: reading in the library, helping in the classroom, joining the field trip to Berkeley Marina, or seeing Amal and Sahar light up when they spot us at a school event.
Volunteering gives us a window into the incredible work of the teachers and staff, sets a good example for our kids, and allows us to see them and their classmates grow and flourish in real time. If our time and effort can help make that experience even a little bit richer for them and their classmates, it's time well spent. We feel fortunate to be able to give back in small ways to a school community that gives so much to them every day."
Honoring a Lasting Legacy
The close of the 2025–26 school year marked the retirement of two beloved faculty members whose dedication, compassion, and leadership have left an enduring mark on generations of Seven Hills students and families.
Kirsten Woods
32 Years of Service
Kirsten Woods retired after an extraordinary 32-year career at Seven Hills. She began as a 4th grade teacher in 1994 and spent 25 years in the Lower School before bringing her passion for literature, writing, and poetry to Middle School students as a 6th grade language arts teacher. Throughout her career, Kirsten inspired generations of learners through her thoughtful teaching, mentorship, and unwavering belief in the potential of every child. She also served for more than a decade as co-coordinator of the school's Japanese exchange program, helping cultivate a meaningful and lasting partnership with Kita City. In honor of her profound contributions to the Seven Hills community, the North Wing classroom has been dedicated as the Kirsten Woods North Wing Classroom.
Debbie Shipherd
20 Years of Service
After 20 years of service, Debbie Shipherd retired from Seven Hills, where she faithfully supported our community as both an Early Childhood support teacher and a valued member of the Extended Day team. Since joining Seven Hills in 2005, Debbie has been known for her warmth, creativity, and remarkable ability to capture the joy of campus life through her photography. In 2017, she introduced the Kindness Rocks Project to our campus, creating a tradition that continues to remind students of the power of small acts of compassion. In recognition of the kindness and care she has shared with our community, the garden she inspired near Cottage has been permanently named The Debbie Shipherd Kindness Rock Garden.
The Seven Hills community mourned the loss of Barb Ewell Eaton, whose extraordinary 54 years of service and unwavering devotion to the school touched generations of students, families, faculty, staff, and alumni.

Barb joined Seven Hills in the 1971–72 school year as a 2nd grade teacher, bringing with her nine years of experience in public education. Over the next five decades, she became an institution in her own right, serving the school in countless capacities—including teacher, admissions and administrative support, scheduler, testing coordinator, photographer, historian, archivist, and Alumni Council member. No matter the role, Barb approached every opportunity with generosity, humility, and an enduring love for Seven Hills. Her late husband, Dick Eaton, also shared in this legacy of service as the school's business manager and as a member of the Hale Society.
Even in her later years, Barb remained a familiar and cherished presence on campus. Whether documenting school events through her photography, preserving our history in the archives, or simply stopping by to share a story and a warm conversation, she helped strengthen the connections that make Seven Hills such a special community.
In 2023, Seven Hills established the Barb Eaton Distinguished Service Award to honor her exceptional commitment and lasting contributions to the school. It is a fitting tribute to someone whose kindness, wisdom, humor, and steadfast dedication shaped the culture of Seven Hills for more than half a century. Her legacy will continue to inspire our community for generations to come.

Seven Hills is committed to investing in and enhancing the student experience while keeping tuition as low as possible.
The Board of Trustees sets tuition annually and oversees the school’s finances with the dual goals of supporting mission-driven growth and promoting fiscal strength.
The overall operating budget in 2025–26 was $17 million. Faculty and staff salaries and benefits continued to account for 70 percent of the overall operating expenses, while tuition provided more than 81 percent of the overall operating revenue. Philanthropic support of the Annual Fund and auction combined was the third-largest source of operating revenue.

A Heroic Night: The Superhero Soirée Auction
The Seven Hills community answered the call on Saturday, March 21, as parents, friends, faculty, and staff assembled for the 2026 Auction: Superhero Soirée. Guests arrived suited up, spirits high, and ready to save the day in true superhero fashion. From the opening moments through the final paddle raise, the high-flying energy that defines Seven Hills was on full display.
The evening kicked off with an epic video featuring our very own faculty and staff heroes, setting an action-packed tone for the night. Guests enjoyed delicious food and drinks, struck a pose at photo ops, and mingled with fellow guests before taking their seats in Hunt Hall for the main event. Bidders unleashed a wave of support for the school during the live auction and Raise the Paddle, and once the formal program wrapped, the party moved straight to the dance floor.
By the end of the weekend, our league of online silent auction bidders, live auction donors, and Raise the Paddle supporters raised an extraordinary $240,000 net to empower Seven Hills students, teachers, and programs. We are deeply grateful to every hero—parents, guardians, sponsors, staff, volunteers, and bidders—who donated items, spread the word, organized the event, and gave generously. Your incredible support proves once again that not all heroes wear capes!

A MILESTONE WORTH CELEBRATING
Last year, our community reached an incredible milestone for The Campaign for Seven Hills—and for our school's history. Together, we raised more than $9 million, far exceeding the largest campaign total ever achieved in Seven Hills’ 64-year history. We are deeply grateful to the parents, alumni, grandparents, trustees, faculty, staff, and friends whose generosity made this milestone possible. Your support reflects a deep belief in Seven Hills and in the transformative experience we provide for our students.
This campaign's impact will be felt for generations. We are preparing for the 2027 construction of a new Big Red, featuring four bright, modern classrooms and a K–5 Imagination Lab that will give students even more opportunities to create, explore, and learn by doing. Campaign gifts also expand access through Modified Tuition, strengthen and enrich student programs, and grow our endowment to support the school’s long-term financial strength.
This campaign is about more than a new building. It is an investment in the people, programs, and opportunities that make Seven Hills such a special place, and in the students who will call this campus home for years to come. The 260 donors who have contributed to the campaign to date are making this vision possible. We are excited for all members of our community to join them in the months ahead with a personally meaningful gift.
As we prepare to bring the new Big Red to life, we will also say a fond farewell to the original Big Red, which has welcomed and served our students for more than 50 years. Generations of Jaguars have learned, played, celebrated, and grown within its walls. We are grateful for the countless memories it holds and excited to carry that legacy forward into what comes next.
